How credits work

Credits are used in this order: plan credits, extra credits, then pay-as-you-go (if turned on). Plan credits do not roll over, and each extra credit purchase lasts 12 months.

  1. 1Plan credits start again on the 1st of each month and don't roll over.
  2. 2Extra credits are used next, starting with the batch that expires soonest.
  3. 3Each purchase keeps its own expiry, 12 months from the day you paid.
  4. 4Pay-as-you-go is used last, only if it is on and only up to your monthly limit.
  5. 5Expired credits stop counting toward your balance. You don't have to do anything.

On Team with monthly billing, turn on pay-as-you-go in the Usage page so AI work doesn't stop when credits run out, with a limit you control.

Every AI action first reserves its cost, split across up to three sources in a fixed order. Plan credits are used until they are gone. Only then are extra credits used, starting with the batch that expires soonest. Pay-as-you-go comes last, and only if your workspace has it on. A later source is never touched while an earlier one still has credits.

Pay-as-you-go is available on Team with monthly billing and on Enterprise. Usage past your credits is billed afterwards at $3 per 1,000 credits, up to a monthly limit you set, $50 by default and up to $5,000. The limit is never exceeded. Once it is reached, AI actions stop until the next period. You turn it on and set the limit on the Usage page.

If an action fails after its credits were reserved, such as a press release that could not be generated, the credits are returned. Expired extra credits no longer count toward your balance, so there is nothing to clean up yourself.

Each purchase keeps its own expiry, 12 months from the day you paid. For pack prices, see the guide on credit packages.
